My Vintage Children's Valentines from the 1920's--by Bryan F.

I am sharing with you today my maternal grandparent's valentine cards from the 1920s. They were cards and postcards exchanged with family and classmates.

These cards were shared only a few short years after the 1918 Flu Epidemic that killed millions of people worldwide. The 1920s was a happier time with the epidemic and the Great War (WWI) behind those living then and before the devastation of the Great Depression and WWII.

My Grandmother was only five years old during the 1918 Flu and told me stories of entire families disappearing in the community. I can only hope that our advances in medical and sanitary guidance may save us from a similar fate in 2020 some 102 years later.

My thoughts are also with children and spouses that may live in abusive homes during this time when jobs and school no longer create a shield from abuse during part of the day. Economic stress can only make these circumstances worse. If you know someone in these circumstances please reach out virtually and offer them some comfort. If the abuse is criminal or rises to the level of needing intervention, please intervene and report it to the proper authority.

Here are some cheerful and beautiful images of valentines exchanged by my Grandparents to show there friendship and love of each other. I hope it cheers you up during these trying times.

More vintage ephemera will be shared next week.
