beauty routines...or not

Buildings - simple and ornate, require maintenance. Tuckpointing, sanding, painting, and roof repair. Beautifying things is something most of us enjoy doing, be it our homes, faces, bodies, yards, winter coats or tshirts...today, I felt like writing about beauty routines. Or for some, less vain, simple skincare routines.
Many of my family and friends have had a routine for maintenance of hair and skin over the years, routines that have changed just like our bodies and hair over the decades.

Grandmother Elizabeth:
Charles of the Ritz red/pink rouge in a little black pot
Charles of the Ritz Feather Touch cleanser
Elizabeth Arden Velva Moisture Film.
Dove bath soap
*weekly beauty parlor sets

hahahahahaaa

Grandmother Inez:
Halo shampoo
Woodbury soap
Avon Moisture rich hand cream
*never dyed her hair

Yes, that's Louis Jourdan

My mom:
Phisohex
Noxema
Clinique bar soap
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer
Revlon eyeshadows in browns
Revlon body lotion that smelled really good...
Black/Brown mascara
cake mascara by Maybelline (I still have that brush)
cream/lotion foundations
frosted hair
platinum blonde spiky short hair
monthly or so, salon visits
*nightly cleansing and moisturizing
*morning cleansing and makeup application

Aunt Joyce:
Jergens lotion in the bathroom (how I LOVED that smell)

My friend MJ:
Camay soap and a washcloth
Finesse shampoo and conditioner *smelled great
what else...can't say because it wasn't lying around!
*extremely organized bathroom cabinet

Myself:
I remember trips to Rose's to spend my babysitting money age 12 or so, and the first skincare product I ever bought, it may have been Dorothy Gray, because of  the name... smelled like orange blossoms, neroli, though I didn't know the name of it then. It was beautiful to me, but I surely didn't need it.

Around that time my grandmother gave me a bottle of April Violets, my first perfume and one I still love.

My uncle and aunt sent me a package for my 14th birthday that had some avocado based lotion in it, the bottle looked very old-fashioned which was unusual for that time. It smelled really good but I think it was  enjoyed for its looks more than its properties. Included was a vial of frangipani oil, a very cheer inducing flower fragrance. There is some growing in the front yard right now.

My good friend Kim used Yardley products and in 8th grade I bought their Astral Wine pot o' gloss, and Moody Mauve eye shadow.
I have no brand loyalty, but a product does have to smell good.

I'm attaching images of makeup/no makeup looks I like, just for fun. Look at January Jones with the 60's look. This is a great look if you ask me:

I like natural looks. Foreign films show you real skin, real color. That is beautiful to me.

What kind of beauty/skincare routine memories do you have?
