Eleanor Roosevelt monument in NYC

Nan's computer has gremlins in it and her post (which may nor may not have Eleanor R. in it) will appear eventually. In the meantime, this lost-landmarks website has interesting photos of a tribute to Eleanor's work for worldwide peace.

  1. Tragic that it's all treated as so forgotten. I really have to wonder if there's malignant, political will behind this isolation and neglect.
Presumably the restrictions were at least ostensibly a matter of trying to avoid vandalism, and maybe any liability for anything that might happen on the property, but a memorial in a park-like setting with restricted access is so very Not Eleanor Roosevelt. She certainly had enough mud and ink slung viciously at her while she was alive, I don't think she'd choose the security of a conceptual tomb over the risk of vandalism with free and open access to the public.

  2. This really is a terrible shame. But not surprising given the direction this country has taken.
