Theme Song Tryouts -- Tova Es
When considering what kind of theme I might want to coalesce some song recommendations around, for some reason the first thing that spoke to me was “melancholy, spooky women singing bittersweetly.”
Not long after, I realized that the first three songs in my mental playlist were all ones I discovered in the same place: the podcast Welcome to Night Vale, a scripted horror-comedy about a supernaturally hyperactive desert town. "Welcome to Night Vale" takes the format of the town’s local radio news program, and in each episode, the “weather report” is a full play of a song by an underground artist. The producers have great taste, and I’ve discovered some of my favorites this way. Here are three songs whose haunting bars made their way from Night Vale’s sandy windswept airways to my iPhone’s heavy rotation.
"Closer" -- The Tiny
"The Heroine" -- Unwoman
“Well-Dressed” – Hop Along
I might have to borrow one or two for next week’s playlist...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely want to look for more from The Tiny and Unwoman -- and am interested in giving "Welcome To Night Vale" a try. Thanks!
